How do I quote faster as a tradie?

By Chris Goldsworthy, founder of GOLDSTACK ·

Short answer

Collect the job details in writing before you quote, build quotes from a price list and a few standard templates instead of from scratch, and send them from your phone the same day. Having AI draft the quote from your rates and the customer's details means you only check it, adjust anything that needs your judgement, and hit send.

Get the details up front

Half the time spent quoting is chasing information: photos, measurements, access, what the customer actually wants. Ask for it at the first contact with a short set of questions, so you can quote without another call.

Work from a price list

Write down your standard rates, call-out, common materials and your usual inclusions and exclusions. Most quotes are variations on a few job types. A template for each saves rewriting the same lines every night.

Let AI draft it

With your rates and templates in place, AI can draft the quote from the enquiry details and photos, in your branding. You check it on your phone, change anything that needs your eye, and send it while the customer is still keen.

Send it the same day

The first reasonable quote often wins. Quoting the same day, even if it's a range pending a site visit, keeps you ahead of the tradies who quote on Sunday night.

Common questions

Should I quote without a site visit?

For simple, well-defined jobs, a quote from photos and details can work. For anything uncertain, give a range or book a visit.

What should every quote include?

Scope, what's included and excluded, price, validity period, payment terms and how to accept.

Can customers accept online?

Yes. An accept button on the quote speeds things up and records the acceptance.

Will AI get my prices wrong?

It drafts from the rates you set, and you check every quote before it goes out.
