How do I remind customers the day before a job?

By Chris Goldsworthy, founder of GOLDSTACK ·

Short answer

Send an automatic reminder the day before every booking with the date and time window, anything the customer needs to do (like clear access or keep pets inside), and an easy way to confirm or reschedule. It cuts wasted trips, because problems surface the day before instead of at the front door.

What the reminder should say

"Hi Priya, a reminder that we're booked for your split system install tomorrow between 8 and 10am. Please make sure we can get to the meter box. Reply YES to confirm or tap here to reschedule."

Timing

The afternoon before works well. Early enough to sort access, late enough that they remember.

Handle the replies

Confirmations go into the booking. Reschedule requests come to you or offer new times automatically. Anyone who doesn't reply can get a quick call.

Make it automatic

Reminders should go out for every booking from your diary, without anyone remembering to send them.

Common questions

Text or email?

Text usually gets read faster. Use what the customer prefers.

Should I remind on the day too?

An on-the-way message with your arrival time is a nice touch.

What if they don't reply?

A quick call or message on the morning saves a wasted trip.

Can reminders include a map or instructions?

Yes. Include whatever helps the job go smoothly.
